Saturday With Sasha and Come On Get Crafty - February 2014

Hi everyone!! We're back with another edition of Saturday With ♥yours truly♥  and Come On Get Crafty!

I'm in denial. A little bit. How could we be in February already? Really? 2 out of 12 months almost done for 2014. Somebody stop the time! :D LOL. Kidding. I actually try to enjoy every single day. The keyword is try here. We all have bad days, I sure had a couple of them already this year. They say "Don't let a bad day make you feel like you have a bad life" - and they're absolutely right. Chin up and head to the scrap room. You will feel better! :)

Pier 39

First up is a mini layout of Pier39. My second favorite place in the city of San Francisco (first is The Golden Gate Bridge). :)

Yes, I said mini. This is a 6 x 8 layout. I have this idea of making a mini album with page protectors for all our SFO vacation photos. We'll see how that goes. If it doesn't happen, I will just stick this one in a 6 x 8 page protector and keep it in my normal 8.5 x 11 album.

I used some papers from Webster's Pages Recorded  and also Pink Paislee Hey Kid 6 x 6 paper pad

The Dear Lizzy Polka Dot Party tag has some journaling on it, and is not attached to the page. You can pull the brad and Webster's Pages airplane paper clip (which are attached to each other) to bring the tag out.

If you ask me what is my favorite thing on this layout, my answer would be those Basic Grey Candy Buttons. Look how pretty they are! I also can't get enough of those Jenni Bowlin Tiny Trims Rub Ons. I suck at stamping in gold, so this is perfect for when I need some gold in my layouts!

Here

Oh! Be still my heart! My baby girl, who still loves sleeping in my room when daddy is not around. I'll take what I can. They're growing up too fast!

I am loving all the colors against the while background here. This must be my favorite 'style' of all. I love the brights, so white background works great.

I cut the 'Right Here' card from Glitz Wild & Free Whatnots pack - and only used the 'HERE' part, backed up with a piece of patterned paper. Then I layered one of the Elle's Studio Penelope Frames with some vellum, scraps of patterned papers and printed vellum, added some Pink Paislee Cardstock Label Stickers and Basic Grey Candy Buttons because I can't seem to scrap without them. LOL.

I also took apart some of the Dear Lizzy Polka Dot Party toothpick hearts and attached them sans the toothpicks (you get two hearts from a toothpick! score!) I layered the date sticker from Webster's Pages New Year New You on top of another tag from Chictags, just because. I do a lot of just because embellishing, really. I love playing with what I have in hand.

Now I look at these two layouts and I see two sides of my creative 'style' (if you can call it that, I don't think I have a definite style, though). One linear and simple, another is messy, a little bit crooked and comes with a lot of ink splashes. I love them both!

How about you? What do you think your style is? Are you open to trying new things or are you pretty set in your way of doing things? I personally feel that there is no right or wrong. Do what you love, when you can, with whatever you have!

I'll see you soon!

Who do you scrap for?

Let's talk about this for a while, shall we?

I know for sure I'm not scrapping for my children.

I scrap for me. I've said that again and again and probably made some people angry as well.

I scrap for me. I don't expect my children to take ownership of the scrapbook layouts once I'm gone. They can throw the layouts away if they want to. Space is very limited in Singapore, we're already living in a shoebox (which I'm very grateful for!) and I really don't want to force albums upon albums to the girls when they move out. If they want some of my layouts, feel free. If they don't, well, I'm not gonna cry. :D

I scrap for me. I don't worry too much about journaling and the memory recording part of stuff and that is okay. Most of the time I scrap to play with my stash and tools anyway. If I feel like writing down a few sappy (or not!) sentences, good. If not, no big deal.

I scrap for me. I scrap because I think it's fun. When scrapbooking is no longer fun, you can bet your last dollar I will no longer be doing it. If it's not fun, it's not worth it. Especially when you take into account that supplies are not cheap - many people commented (none of their business, really!) that 'wow, you sure have an expensive hobby' - to which I agree, but I also don't collect designer clothes, or handbags so expensive you could buy 20 Silhouette Cameos with the same amount of money. To each their own, eh? :)

I scrap for me. It's cheaper than therapy. Who do you scrap for?

Speaking of scrapping - there's a new Sketch It Up here → Chictags blog.

Memory Monday

Don't give up on me.

This layout was created in 2011.

I was struggling then. Most of the time, I felt like I'm the failed member of the synchronized swimming team. Desperately smiling. Waving. Drowning. I kept thinking to myself - Why does motherhood has to be damn bloody hard? *sigh*

Yup. I'm that mom. I had to learn how to be a mommy *no such thing as motherhood and maternal instincts that come naturally for me*. And it wasn't easy. Not at all.

She's gonna be 14 this year. I'd like to think I'm a better mom now, but the truth is that I'm still learning, and the process is lifelong.

Saturday Sketch - February

A new sketch is now live on COGC blog! Lots of wonderful layout - I hope you'll hop over there to take a look and play with us :)
February 2014 Sketch @ Come On Get Crafty

Here's my take on it :

Pretty straightforward this time, I think. I did some masking, stamping, stitching and misting for the top and bottom part of the layout. Those diagonal lines are pretty fun to play with. I cut 'Favorite' from one of the card from Dear Lizzy Polka Dot Party Die Cut Card Set and I liked it even more that way rather than using the whole piece.

I've been using lots of Bella blvd stickers lately too. Isn't #thisisawesome super cute and perfect for a layout about my teen daughter? LOL.

Link up your layouts here should you decide to play along! I'd love to take a look!
I'll see you soon!
